INTO Newcastle (Direct pathway to Newcastle University)
University of Newcastle upon Tyne หรือเรียกสั้นๆ ว่า Newcastle University เป็นมหาวิทยาลัยที่เน้นวิจัยขนาดกลาง มีความเชี่ยวชาญด้านการสอนและวิจัยทางแพทยศาสตร์ ก่อตั้งขึ้นจากส่วนงานของ Durham University ที่แยกออกมาและพัฒนาให้เป็นมหาวิทยาลัย Newcastle University เป็นหนึ่งในสองมหาวิทยาลัยในเมืองนิวคาสเซิล
Newcastle University ก่อตั้งเมื่อเดือนตุลาคม คศ. 1834 ในฐานะวิทยาลัยแพทย์ขนาดเล็ก ๆ Newcastle University มีวิทยาเขตหลักที่ย่านเฮย์มาร์เก็ต ด้านตะวันตกเฉียงเหนือของใจกลางเมือง Newcastle, Newcastle University ตั้งอยู่ติดกับสวนสาธารณะ Leazes Park, สวนสาธารณะ Town Moor และ Northumbria University
ภายใน Newcastle University ประกอบด้วยอาคารเรียนและปฏิบัติการ อาทิ อาคารอาร์มสตรอง ซึ่งสร้างในปี พ.ศ. 2431 ด้วยเงิน 18,000 ปอนด์ทองคำ ต่อมาได้มีการต่อเติมสร้างหอจูบิลี ซึ่งเสร็จในปี พ.ศ. 2437 เพื่อเป็นอนุสรณ์พระราชพิธีกาญจนาภิเษกของสมเด็จพระราชินีนาถวิกตอเรียเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2430 นอกจากนี้ในปี พ.ศ. 2449 ได้มีการต่อเติมทางเข้าด้านตะวันตกเฉียงเหนือจนสำเร็จ อาคารทั้งหลังทำพิธีเปิดโดยสมเด็จพระราชาธิบดีเอ็ดเวิร์ดที่เจ็ด ภายในอาคาร ประกอบด้วยโถงคิงส์ (King’s Hall) ซึ่งได้รับพระบรมราชานุญาตให้เรียกชื่อเช่นนั้น โถงดังกล่าวใช้เป็นสถานที่ประกอบพิธีมอบปริญญาบัตร ด้านข้างอาคารเป็นลานอนุสรณ์สำหรับคณาจารย์-เจ้าหน้าที่ และนักศึกษาซึ่งต้องสูญเสียชีวิตในสงครามโลกครั้งที่หนึ่งและสอง
นอกจากอาคารอาร์มสตรองแล้ว ยังมีอาคารบรูซ (ฺBruce Building) ซึ่งสร้างราว ๆ พ.ศ. 2439 – 2443 ออกแบบโดยโจเซฟ ออสวอลด์ (Joseph Oswald) แต่เดิมใช้เป็นโรงสุราของบริษัทนิวคาสเซิลบรูเวอรี (Newcastle Brewery Limited)
อาคารที่สร้างใหม่ของมหาวิทยาลัย หนึ่งในนั้นคือ อาคารเดวอนเชอร์ (Devonshire Building) ซึ่งเปิดในปี พ.ศ.2544 เป็นอาคารประหยัดพลังงานซึ่งติดตั้งเซลล์สุริยะ กระแสไฟฟ้าที่ได้จะนำไปควบคุมระบบม่านควบคุมแสงในอาคาร ตลอดจนมีการใช้พลังงานน้ำร้อนใต้ดินทำความร้อนให้แก่อาคาร จนได้รับรางวัลกรีนกาวน์ (Green Gown)
Newcastle University มีห้องสมุดขนาดใหญ่ 3 แห่ง ได้แก่ ห้องสมุดโรบินสัน ซึ่งเป็นหอสมุดกลาง ตั้งชื่อตามฟิลิป โรบินสัน (Philip Robinson) พ่อค้าขายหนังสือและผู้อุทิศเงินแก่มหาวิทยาลัย, ห้องสมุดวอลตัน ซึ่เป็นหอสมุดคณะแพทยศาสตร์ ตั้งชื่อตามจอห์น วอลตัน (John Walton) อดีตคณบดีคณะแพทยศาสตร์ ห้องสมุดวอลตันเป็นห้องสมุดที่อนุญาตให้เจ้าหน้าที่สำนักบริการสุขภาพแห่งชาติ (National Health Services) ได้ใช้ด้วย และ ห้องสมุดกฎหมาย ห้องสมุดของมหาวิทยาลัยได้รับรางวัลชาร์เทอร์มาร์ก (Charter Mark) ในฐานะที่ให้บริการแก่ผู้ใช้ห้องสมุดดีเด่น นอกจากห้องสมุดขนาดใหญ่แล้ว มหาวิทยาลัยยังมีห้องสมุดขนาดเล็กตามภาควิชาต่าง ๆ
